Future
Tech aims to present you with a realistic view of the future, based on
concepts and prototypes for future vehicles, which are currently in
serious development. It is a fascinating compilation of material which
explores and defines, in more ways than one, how we move forward. It does
that by setting developments out in five main modes of transport: air
travel & aerospace, personal mobility, public transport, road
transport and water transport. These subjects make up the main chapters.
Each chapter is built up of a main introduction text and a number of
outlined descriptions of various concepts and prototypes. Each chapter
introduction text addresses various problems and challenges facing the
particular area of transport as well as describing a range of solutions
developed by engineers and designers. A large number of the concepts and
prototypes mentioned in the text are described and explained in more
detail in separate outlined parts. Each chapter introduction text also
looks at current developments from a historical context, as well as giving
some general historical information. For example when the first cars,
motorcycles and airplanes were invented, how they were powered and what
alternatives engineers of those days proposed. The way we transport
ourselves today has a long historical background. Some of the current
developments are sometimes actually more than a century old, but never
found commercial success for various reasons or simply disappeared in
favor of other vehicles which seemed more promising at the time. |
